Jyrki ”Spider” Hämäläinen has been a contributing writer to UK’s Vive Le Rock magazine since it’s beginning over a decade ago. He is also a former full-time editor of one of Finland’s biggest magazines Seiska. He has interviewed everyone from Alice Cooper to John Lydon along with a long list of ice hockey players and interdisciplinary enthusiasts.

Originally from Finland he has spent a third of his life in the UK and during his time in London he was very active in the music scene organising concerts under Spiderweb Promotions banner and playing guitar in such punk bands as the notorious Defcon Zero. Initially he moved to the UK to study (BA)Hons in Media and Popular Culture at Leeds Metropolitan University followed by MA in Cultural and Critical Studies at Birkbeck University of London, but later stayed working in a broad range of roles within the broadcasting industry.

He has a long history of writing about the post-punk pioneers Killing Joke and it comes as no surprise that his first book “Killing Joke: Are You Receiving?” is the first successful attempt at telling the band’s rich and interesting over 40-year journey becoming one of the most influential bands on the planet.
